Yes, contrary to popular belief, God is not having a recession. This may sound like a trite statement, but if we can really understand this, it can change our destiny, economic and otherwise!
Before we continue, a review of our current position in Christ is in order:
Not Prospering Is Under The Curse
Now in case you aren't aware of it already, there was a curse associated with not following or keeping the whole or entire Law, and the effect of that curse was in summation, not prospering. The Word is not just talking about money, for sickness and disease is also promised as part of this curse.
Deuteronomy 28:45, 46
"So all these curses shall come on you and pursue you and overtake you until you are destroyed, because you would not obey the Lord your God by keeping His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you."
(46) "And they shall become a sign and a wonder on you and your descendants forever."
Now what's very interesting is why God found this so offensive. Or, to put it another way, what element of not keeping the Law caused God to bring this curse upon those that didn't keep the Law besides obviously being disobedient? Why? He answers this question in verse 47 of the same chapter 28 of Deuteronomy.
(47) "Because you did not serve the Lord your God with joy and a glad heart, for the abundance of all things."
What this is saying, if I may take the liberty of explanation, is they didn't a.) put God first in their lives (serve the Lord their God joyfully) and b.) for the abundance of all things (that is, they didn't trust Him for their provision, supply, and abundance.)
Wow, what a statement. The curse then came upon them for not trusting God for their complete and total provision of abundance in all areas of their lives (remember, for the "abundance of all things...) They didn't have faith!
The Reward For Keeping The Law
So what was the reward for keeping the Law? There are many specific blessings associated with obedience to the Law, but for the purposes of this Word study we'll concentrate on just two, Deuteronomy 28:2, 11.
(2) "And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you will obey the Lord your God."
(11) "And the Lord will make you abound in prosperity..."
God's Word Is Forever
Do you remember what God said in verse 46 of this 28th Chapter of Deuteronomy? He said the curse would be forever. You see, when God says something it becomes law, and it cannot be reversed even by Him!
But Here's the good part, it's the same for the blessing. Yes, that's right, the reward of blessing also stands forever because He said it. But what about the curse - the Word of God said it stands forever even through generation after generation? And what does this have to do with today and recession?
You Qualify - Redeemed
That the reward of blessing also stands forever may be the good part of the above statement but here's the best part: Galatians 3:13 says that those that belong to Jesus have been redeemed from the curse. And if we've been redeemed, what position does that put us in concerning the Law? Pure, washed, guiltless by the Blood of Jesus! And if we are guiltless what does that entitle us to? That's right, the blessings! Praise Jesus! We qualify for the blessings of keeping the whole Law because of and through the Blood of Jesus. It's like we never sinned in the Father's eyes -that's what 'redeemed from the curse' means.
We Have The New-birth Right To Prosperity
Yes, we have the new-birth right to prosperity. But that doesn't mean we are going to, or have to for that matter, take it. No, we can still go live under the world's laws (the laws of the flesh) and all of the effects of those laws (can we say recession!)
You see, as I have stated before but it bears repeating, even when you belong to Jesus, the kingdom rules you live under are your choice - the kingdom of this world or God's kingdom. So how do we choose which kingdom rules we live under? Here's a hint: What was the cause of the curse? Remember? Not believing God for the abundance of all things - right? And it's the same way today.
By believing God for the abundance of all things, we lay claim to our rightful heritage we received, bought and paid for in full, by Him, at the Cross, on our behalf. Now I didn't say this, God said this in His Word.
The Economy Does Not Negate God's Promise
Live under God's umbrella of blessing by claiming it through faith - faith in His Word and His word. God is not obligated to current economic conditions, nor do economic conditions negate His promise to His people contained in His Word. Then why are many Christians being devastated? My friends, this may be hard to hear, but look to their hearts. Look at your heart. Have you given up? Have you allowed yourself to slip into despair and a state of fear (denying God's promise of provision to you - your rightful entitlement of inheritance through Christ)?
It's Not Too Late
It's not too late to receive. If you are one of those who have allowed themselves to slip into a condition of disobedience of not serving the Lord your God, with joy, for the abundance of all things (Deuteronomy 28:47), don't despair. Repent and believe God. He can and will turn it around.
Remember His Word - The Promise Remains
His Word says that "For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke shall pass away from the Law, until all is accomplished."(Matthew 5:18)
Believe God, live under His plan of blessing for our lives. Receive your blessing throught faith (Hebrews 11:1). Neither God nor His kingdom contains anything concerning recession. There is no recession in His plan or His kingdom. You have the right, the new-birth right, to live in prosperity and blessing if you belong to Jesus. Just believe, look forward to, and count on His Word and His promises. Circumstances are temporary, God's Word lasts forever.
