We as Christians have a right to live free and in a boundless capacity of victory in this life, the Bible tells us this. The Bible also tells us that we have the same inheritance as Jesus! Blasphemy you say? Quite the contrary. You see, it would be blasphemy to say anything less! For the book of Ephesians tells us this very thing in 1:18-23, 2:1-7. I encourage you to read about your inheritance that you have received from Jesus. And in your understanding please also know that your inheritance qualifies you to live in God's kingdom, complete with full privileges. Many, many Scripture references bear this fact out.
(18) And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. (19) "Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure you. (20) "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."(Luke 10:18-20)
We have been given the right to live by and in His kingdom, and yes, under His kingdom rules. But we must understand that every kingdom does have rules that must be abided. It might be said that a kingdom is even defined by it's rules. As Christians, we have inherited the kingdom of heaven or of God. We have a right to live in it irrespective of any other kingdom. The above Scripture reference illustrates this – the power and authority of the believer. We are just like one of the seventy that are spoken of here, except we have even more. For we are recipients of Jesus' full inheritance (remember the seventy went out before Jesus went to the cross, so therefore His full inheritance could not be imparted yet.) But we have all that He has (except deity). Let's look at another Scripture reference that outlines this authority that Jesus has that has been willed to us:
(10) And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying,
"Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. (11) And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death." (Rev. 12:10,11)
Brothers and sisters in Christ, please receive this: His authority is part of His kingdom that has been willed to us. It's part of the rules or laws that outline His kingdom. And this world is subject to and subordinate to God's kingdom.
The "Other" Kingdom
But there is another kingdom for you to be aware of, yes, another kingdom for you to know about. It is this earthly kingdom. And just as Jesus rules in God's kingdom, this kingdom also has a ruler. And yes, this "other" kingdom also has rules that define it also. I know of no other place in God's Word that this other kingdom is contrasted so dramatically with God's kingdom, as that of John 10:10:
"The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy; I came that they might have life, and might have it abundantly."
There you have it - the two kingdoms contrasted. The kingdom of Satan, that is typified by his trademarks and the fruit of his seed, that is, killing, stealing, and destroying, and the kingdom of God which is typified by the personification of Jesus, that is, life abundantly (or more than enough in every area of life).
Satan's Kingdom of the World
Now just so there is no possibility of mistake or mislabeling, let us go to the Word of God to further identify this other kingdom that is ruled by Satan. (31) "Now judgement is upon this world; now the ruler of this world shall be cast out."(Jn. 12:31) Yes, the other kingdom is none other than this world and it's ruler none other than Satan.
"But we have been purchased with a price of more value than pure gold - the blood of Jesus," you might be saying. And you'd be right. "And we have a right to be free from the effects of sin and all the devil stands for... his kingdom." That too is correct. But having the right or ownership is not the same as receiving! Let me explain it this way: If a great sum of money is deposited on your behalf, even in your name, it is rightfully yours. But that in and of itself does not enrich you, does it? No, you have to withdraw it to spend it - that is to enjoy all the fruits and benefits of it, or to walk in it. The kingdom of God is no different.
Why am I saying this? Because there are a great many Christians walking around "living poor," in the world... this world, under it's rules and suffering the consequences (that is killing, being stolen from, and destruction), who, all the while, have the new-birth right to live and walk in the blessings of the kingdom of God. In fact the deed-title ownership is in their names! But how can this happen?
Who You Believe
(35) Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst. (36) "But I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe."(John 6:35,36)
And who will you believe? For even though the right to live and operate in the power and authority of Jesus through His name has been granted to you, paid for by Him for you, who you believe will absolutely define what kingdom you will live and operate in. Will it be the kingdom of this world and it's rules (that is the rules of doubting God and not believing Him) complete with it's fruits of death and destruction (John 10:10)? Or will you choose to believe the One, true, triune living God, who died and paid the price for a glorious life imbued with power and victory, for His glory and His will for your life within His divine plan of love? Who will you believe He is? Will you believe He is a God of His word, which is contained in His Word and His promises? Or will you believe the lies of the devil, which will make you a part of his world, this world, and his kingdom - complete with his fruits? The choice is yours. If you belong to Jesus you have a choice, and you will make that choice by what you do with and whether you believe His words and promises. Yes, what you believe will determine what you receive, and who, in a very real sense, will be your God. Choose Jesus - choose life. Choose His kingdom of heaven - His kingdom of righteousness. It's your new-birth right bought and paid for by Him.
